The core competencies of the Energy Business Area are planning, financing, building and operating highly efficient fossil-fuel power stations. As a grid-independent power generator, Evonik operates coal-fired power plants at eight sites in Germany and refinery power plants at two locations. 

Internationally, the success of Evonik Industries includes major coal-fired power stations in Columbia, Turkey and the Philippines. Rated output is around 9,400 Megawatts (MW), including around 7,700 MW in Germany

We are a pioneer of efficient modern generation technology for hard coal that reduces pressure on raw materials. Evonik is well-positioned in the fast-growing future market for renewable energies and is one of the German market leaders in mine gas, biomass and geothermal energy. The Energy Business Area comprises the Energy segment.
