SIRA Students

The SIRA project was established in 1987 by the Chemical Industry Region Antwerpen in cooperation with the unions ABVV, ACV, BBTK and LBC/NVK. With this project the participating chemical companies, including Evonik Degussa Antwerpen NV, want to train young people during one year (starting in September) for the job of production worker in the chemical sector, through a system of part-time learning and working.

The project is aimed at young people who
• are at the time of recruitment minimum 18 and maximum 25 years;

  • are technically interested;
  • are job-seekers at the beginning of the training;
  • are prepared to work in shifts;
  • pass the selection tests;
  • in principle have no degree by which they would directly meet the educational requirements for the position of production worker.

In connection with the qualification requirements, please contact Kristof Heyselberghs (contact data on the right).

The training program consists of approximately 500 hours of theoretical training (two days a week) and about 1,000 hours of business practice (three days a week). The theoretical part is given in school, either in the Provinciaal Instituut voor Technische Onderwijs in Stabroek, or in the Technicum in Antwerp. This training is always on Monday and Tuesday. The practical training on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday consists of carrying out tasks and activities in a production unit in a two-shift system (early/late). For this practical training the SIRA student receives a fee.

The selection for the SIRA project usually starts from June. We advise you to apply in June and July (eventually in August).
